My career is rooted in cost segregation for McDonald’s restaurants, having completed over 3,000 personally. In addition to McDonald’s, I’ve worked on all commercial and residential-rental property types (including new construction and acquisition) in all 50 states and 5 countries — ranging in cost from five hundred thousand to two billion dollars.

I’ve performed fixed asset review for multi-national organizations, achieving over $1.5 billion in tax savings for our clients. Other projects I’ve led or assisted on include allocation of purchase price, capital allowances (UK), and partial asset dispositions.

I am extremely proud to be part of a small business that has weathered two economic downturns and an ever-changing landscape of competitors. I attended Northwestern University, majoring in Accounting and English. I currently live in Hinsdale, Illinois with my wife and three sons.

John, a licensed architect and former principal with Big Four accounting, has nearly 50 years of architecture, construction, tax, and valuation experience. He founded Kevil & Kevil, LLC, which has provided cost segregation and fixed asset consulting services since 2001.

John has extensive experience across valuation disciplines including Investment Tax Credit (ITC), cost segregation analysis, allocation of purchase price, property tax work, litigation support, and determination of fair market value — including going concern value, orderly and forced liquidation values, and real property functional obsolescence analysis.

Relevant professional experience

Cost segregation, fixed asset, and valuation work across hotels, resorts, casinos, and leisure; wholesale and retail; distribution; restaurants; sports and stadium facilities; gaming and recreation; auto assembly; and light and heavy industrial and process facilities.

Banking, retail, commercial, and office construction. Special-purpose facilities include rocket manufacturing and assembly, food preparation and processing, munitions and weapons, classified defense plants, and mining.

Real property valuations include hotels and resorts, commercial and heavy industrial (steel manufacturing, auto assembly and stamping, co-generation, mining and ore processing), and machinery and equipment.

Nearly thirty years of ITC and cost segregation audit support at the IRS review level. Offshore cost segregation for U.S. and foreign tax reporting, and U.S. properties for Japanese National Tax reporting.
